Flow Reports

Thursday October 13, 2011 at 3:37pm

You may have seen my last blog about Simulation reports. Great! But what about reports in Flow Simulation? Well we can also create very neat custom reports in Flow. The report writer is different from the FEA Simulation but also produces great reports in Word. The report writer is accessed from the Flow drop down menu which then allows you to choose a template. There are a set of standard templates with a variety of options for what is included - from 'Results Only' to 'Full Report'. These templates can be modified. To do this, all you need to do is browse in Windows Explorer to the folder where they are stored which is typically ...

<Install Dir>Program Files>SOLIDWORKS 2011>SOLIDWORKS Flow Simulation>Lang>English>Templates>Report

The best bet is to copy one of the existing templates and then open the copy. You can add whatever 'boiler plate' text you want and logos etc. Then save it - BUT, make sure you save it as a .doc file (i.e. NOT docx).

When you next run a report your own template will be in the list and will save you a lot of time. I have found it well worthwhile adding some standard text (descriptions and assumptions etc) so that I don't have to retype it for each project.

Here is a sample of my output ...

Here is the window of the report generator ...

Once you have the basic report you can embellish it with pictures, graphs and tables of data by using the 'Pictures and Charts' tab or the 'ID' tab.
