The Americas Cup is the oldest international sporting trophy
and the latest stage in the Louis Vuitton Americas Cup World Series is coming
back to the UK and Portsmouth this weekend (24th to 26th
July 2016).
The current Americas Cup World Series boats are the AC45f
catamaran which use lightweight composite materials, with innovative wing sails
and hydrofoils which lift them out of the water and allow them to actually
travel faster than the wind pushing them!
Two of the six teams (the British Team “Land Rover BAR” and
“Oracle” Team USA) competing in this weekend’s racing will also be using chase
boats from British manufacturer and SOLIDWORKS customer Scorpion Ribs. Scorpion
have had SOLIDWORKS since 2006 and use it in the design and build of their high
quality ribs from their base in Lymington Hampshire.
Hopefully with the support from SOLIDWORKS customers such as
Scorpion Ribs, the British Team “Land Rover BAR” captained by five times
Olympic medal winner Sir Ben Ainslie can bring the Americas Cup back to the UK
for the first time in 166 years when it reaches its conclusion in Bermuda next
year!
