Staht Case Study

Staht is a UK-based start-up that is enhancing the safety of the built environment by revolutionising on-site testing and measuring equipment throughout the construction industry. With a focus on the internet of things and providing a seamless loop between software, hardware, mechanics, and hydraulics.

Their first product is the Staht Digital Pull Tester - a compact, powerful, and innovative machine which enables the user to reach 60kN with ease. It provides a single solution for all typical on-site proof testing applications, including pull testing individual fixings allowing you to sign off fixings without the opportunity for human error.

The Staht Digital Pull Tester links seamlessly into their app, Staht Connect. By using the two solutions together, users can:

  • See live testing data
  • Assign GPS locations
  • Take and upload videos and photos
  • Record all data points associated with each test in a centralised location

Accelerating Innovation with the SOLIDWORKS Entrepreneur Programme

Like many start-ups, it all begins with an idea the next step is finding the right tools and materials to enable it to make it a reality. Staht joined our SOLIDWORKS Entrepreneur Programme which has helped them to design, conceptualise, and test their iterations before moving to physical prototypes.

"The Entrepreneur Programme was a fantastic kick-start for us." States Rob Hirst, Managing Director of Staht Ltd, "I knew it [SOLIDWORKS] was the most cost-effective, and easy to use software that had all the additional tools we needed from a Data Management point of view, but more importantly, from an FEA and stress analysis side."

Our SOLIDWORKS Entrepreneur Programme provides companies with everything they need to get started, equipped with software and training to get them off the ground.

Validating the Concept through Simulation

For Staht, they needed to be able to test and validate the product in light of the required force and loading. To do this, they used the SOLIDWORKS Simulation package to identify the best strength-to-weight ratio and validate the product's capability.

"We use the standard SOLIDWORKS package but we're also using SOLIDWORKS Simulation for our FEA testing." Explains Rob, "This helps us get the best out of the product, identify the best strength to weight ratio. It's so easy to use, and multiple people can pick it up, making it a natural choice for us."

Set for Success with Solid Solutions

At Solid Solutions, we always do our best to support customers, not matter what stage in their journey they're at, the same goes for those on our Entrepreneur Programme. We took the opportunity to speak to Rob about how he's found the support from our team over the past 18 months.

"The support has been fantastic." States Rob, "I would class myself as a good user of SOLIDWORKS, but whenever I need support, someone is always ready at the end of the phone which gives me a fantastic start and always drives the product on and allows me to keep going when I need to hit a deadline."
