SolidWorks Weldments Trim/Extend

Trim/Extend Feature and Weldment Cut Lists

A reminder of one of the main features of the Weldments area of SOLIDWORKS; the Trim/Extent tool.

Having started off with a part containing two weldment tubes and a horizontal Boss-Extrude tube, the weldment features require trimming to the outside face of the extrusion.

Selecting right-hand body, I have assigned the trim boundry to the outside face off the extrusion. Be sure to select the bodies to be kept and discarded from the flyout menus. I then Repeated this with the second weldment tube.

I have added in a second circular boss to demonstrate the end part of the Trim/Extend tool. The feature automatically recognises it needs to extend the Weldment to the face off the boss (highlighted pink), once again be sure to select which sections of the body are kept and discarded.

A further point about using Weldments in SOLIDWORKS; when the finished part is exported to a drawing a Weldment cut list can also be added to the sheet as shown below, to which I have also added balloons.
